A lot of Nigerians have seen shege over the new naira notes. Some have queued in banks for hours hoping to see it like it was a Burna Boy concert. But much like the artiste, it has remained adamant that we should be grateful whenever we set eyes on it.
Here are five reasons, with your responses, why the new Naira note is not our mate:
It Doesn’t Care How It Looks;
While 75 percent of our respondents thought the new 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes look ugly, it doesn’t seem to care. As far as the CBN is concerned, they can take a picture of shit and as long as they call it currency, Nigerians should use it.
Banks Have Burnt For It
While all our respondents were not interested in burning any banks, banks in Benin have been burnt for the new naira. Our dear Benin people, in frustration, have thrown Molotov cocktails into banks and destroyed these properties. I cannot say this enough but destroying properties does not solve any problems, if anything, it compounds them.
It Has Made POS People Richer
The new naira came for the POS attendants and there is no arguing that. Respondents we spoke to decried the charges they have had to pay for cash. One had paid as much as N3000 for N10,000 during the heat of it. Another respondent had spent N800 for N5000, which is a N700 increase in rates for that amount. The sudden surge in POS charges by these attendants, to many, is exactly what is wrong with this overtly opportunistic country. Could you ever by your absence change the fortune of a group of people?
Even the Supreme Court Has No Level
The Executive again showed that they do not care about democracy when they refused to comply with Nigeria’s apex court’s ruling that old 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes are still recognised as legal tender in Nigeria. It is not the first time the Executive is making a laughing stock of checks and balances but whatever.
It Wants to Be Your One and Only
CBN’s decision to continue to insist that the old naira no longer has legal tender status, while the new naira isn’t in circulation, seems very anti-people. The new naira is extremely jealous and will see no side chicks on its watch.

Some think it is political
Government should release the new notes cause the masses are the ones suffering and not the politicians. They already have whatever CBN claims they circulated. If they are trying to stop vote buying, I think it’s a futile effort because people are more likely to be bought now that they have been pushed to the wall. Our economy is already hanging on a thin thread, the last thing we need is a crisis

I’m in total support of the new naIra policy. Since it’ll help fish out individuals who have stolen funds and stashed them. Which, as we all know, is the M.O of some (If not all) politicians. Also, the new notes is said to control the amount of money in circulation. Which would aid in the implementation of the cashless policy in the country. So essentially, the new naira notes is beneficial to the economy and the citizens.

It could be handled better
Enforce laws already placed on banks to release the new naira notes to the public. The government should not just place a law and hope it will be followed.
