Sons of the Soil

Besides being famous for its rich cultural heritage and historical sites, Edo is home to very prominent people, the great sons of the soil. These people are kicking ass in their various fields, impacting the lives of others and raising the Edo flag high. Some of them are:

Augustus Aigbe

Popularly known as “GRadioRockStar” or “Gucci”, Augustus is a seasoned Broadcast Journalist and Media Personality. He started his radio career as a host on the “Afternoon Drive” show with Silverbird Communications, Benin before moving on to KU FM, Benin, and more recently, CoolFM Nigeria. His passion, diligence, and dedication to journalism have earned him a lot of recognition and awards, one of which is the IGlide South South Male OAP of the year award. Augustus Aigbe is indeed a true “son of the soil”.

Charles Uwagbai

Charles Uwagbai is a filmmaker, media producer, and director. He began his career with motion graphics and animations but moved on to make some of Nollywood’s cinema movies like Black Silhouette, Breathless, The Ghost and Tout, and so on. He made his first movie titled “Okoro, the Prince” in the year 2010. The film starred actors such as the late Sam Loco, Alex Osifo, and others.

Sharon Okpamen

Sharon Okpamen is a Nollywood actress and filmmaker. She was born in the Abudu area of Edo State and had her early and tertiary education in Benin City before moving to Denmark.
Sharon first came into the spotlight in 2010 after starring in the movie “Touch Not My Crown”. She has since featured in over 100 movies and produced her movie “Night Hustlers”.

Uki Dare

A woman passionate about job creation and development, especially amongst the youth. Uki is a trainer, writer, business strategist, business advisory expert, brand manager and so much more. As the Managing Director of EdoJOBS, she oversaw the training and empowerment of thousands of Edo youths. Uki was also very instrumental in the success of the Edo State International Film Festival.

Edward Erharhon

Edward popularly known as “Eddy Young” is not only young but a bundle of talent. He is a filmmaker who came into the limelight after the success of his debut production film “Kasanova”. “Kasanova” was the highest-grossing Nigerian film in September 2019 and also debuted on Netflix in June 2020. It’s beautiful to see that Eddy Young who started his career as an On-Air Personality with ITV Radio, Benin has become one of the major players in Nollywood.
