The Man Called ‘GUCCI’

Who is the man called ‘Gucci’? Well, just like ‘Gucci’ the brand, the man called ‘Gucci’ is high quality, exceptional and outstanding. He is a son of the soil whose hard work and dedication have earned him recognition nationwide. Here’s a chance for you to meet the man himself!

Tell us about yourself. How would you describe yourself in one word?

My name is Augustus Aigbe (Gucci). I am a broadcast journalist with one of the biggest media brands in Lagos. I work directly with the entertainment of the AIM Group (Cool FM). Even after putting in 10 years in the media industry, I am still constantly evolving and desperate to learn more. One word to describe me would be Ambitious

Did you grow up in Benin? What was it like?

Yes, I was born and raised in Benin city, Edo state. I am the 2nd of 3 kids. It was quiet growing up in the city as my dad didn’t let us go out much, so we couldn’t really explore. Our school was really our only outlet.

You have a degree in Science Laboratory Technology, how did you venture into journalism?

Surprisingly, the truth is I have always had a passion for media. It must have been born out of my dad always making us watch the news instead of disturbing the house at night or even constantly listening to the radio (Sports Updates on Independent radio) on my way to school, my dad’s car radio.

Would you consider other media professions, maybe acting?

Absolutely, I know I will definitely act. I have no idea how it will happen but I will give it a go. It is one of my many passions.

What is your dream project?

I am a voice-over artist and a radio producer when I am not talking on the radio. I hope to one day impact this knowledge on a lot of people.

What inspires you the most?

Every hardworking and dedicated person in their profession inspires me. If I see you excel, it spurs me to do better. I hate laziness at work, people who give the bare minimum tire me out.

How do you balance work and private life?

Working in Lagos has already created an imbalance because of the structure of the city. We have to do what we can to survive regardless.

What would be your advice to the average Edo youth trying to find their feet in life and career?

My advice to the youths in Edo would be to find a mentor, research, try to be better always, and never rest on your laurels. Bear in mind that a good foundation is important but if you can start from a rocky foundation and still excel, you have found the life hack.
