Is Finding Love Hard in Benin?

The consensus out there is that Benin City is a terrible place for finding a relationship. Whispers of disappointment and skepticism echo through the streets, leaving hopeful hearts in doubt. But is it truly as bleak as they say?

In this article, we embark on a journey to unearth the truth, seeking firsthand accounts from individuals who have walked the maze of love in Benin City. Through their stories, experiences, and insights, we aim to shed light on whether the city’s reputation as a graveyard for romance is warranted or if there’s more to the narrative than meets the eye.

Respondents Finding Love in Benin

Tejiri, 26

I wouldn’t say I tried to find love o, I was walking inside UNIBEN when love decided to find me. He pursued me o, did all the right things and said all the right things, made sacrifices to prove the love was real, and even met some of my family. This guy would drive long distances to see me every day; I only needed to think out loud about something, and he would buy it the next day. He wasn’t my spec but it was easy to fall in love with the consistency, He was kind to me and always made me feel special, so I eventually agreed.

About one month into the relationship, everything was going well, this lover man was acting lovestruck in the morning but ghosted me by evening. It’s been 2 years since it happened and I’m still trying to figure out how someone can look and act normal but still be a mad person

Here’s how to avoid the friend zone.

Tried linking with a babe at a wedding in Benin, a friend introduced us. It all seemed to be going well until I noticed she always put her phone on DND when we are together. That was the beginning of the end. Searched her phone one time and she was into hookups.

Ahhhhh… Okay well it all began in my secondary school days and there was a girl in my class with skin so dark it reflects like a black diamond under the sun, her hair was slightly darker and a little bit longer than the average hair made into an all-back. She blossomed to the point that even the senior students wanted to speak with her (the regular Benin boy way of toasting fine girls). I finally approached her. It went well, at first, she even said she wanted to be my Val but on that day, she received a big teddy bear and chocolate from one senior and was giggling like she’s never seen a stuffed animal before. I’d spent my life savings on a love bracelet and a Val card. Shame nor allow me even approach her.

In my uni days, I met this guy through a friend. Basically, my friend had said she wasn’t interested and was trying to link us together just in case I liked him. I Liked him immediately cos he was my type. We exchanged numbers but he didn’t seem too keen. He hardly chatted me up and cited he was very busy juggling his business with a part-time study program.

One day, out of the blue, and to my surprise, he called. At this point, I’d already given up cos it seemed apparent that he was not interested. He wanted to meet up for a date. Unfortunately, it was my time of the month and I told him I was in crippling pain and could not meet him up. He seemed to take that really terribly as he never contacted me again. Months later, I found out from a friend that he was a serial fornicator. He had banged half the girls and possibly some boys(apparently, the dude was bi) in my class. I did Thanksgiving that Sunday. But the love thing in Benin hard sha.

We would love to hear you story, share it with us here.
