With a large number of restaurants in Benin City, it can be really hard to carve out a niche for yourself. Ruch Snails, stylized RUCH Snails, thought of doing this by creating a snail-themed restaurant. Personally, I think it is a great idea cos I don’t know anybody who hates snails.
But as no one in the world ever said, “Anyone can think of a great idea, but only a great person can execute one”. So in this review, we look at how well Ruch Snails succeeded.
The Snail Capital
I am sorry to say but you will have to park your Peugeot 504s and Nissan Bluebirds by the road, Ruch Snails is a place for us, cab people. Stepping into the restaurant, there’s something even the blind will notice. It is very green! I am not sure what the relationship between snails and green is, but Ruch Snails is obsessed with that color.
There are dark green leather chairs and lawn green plastic ones. There is the green faux grass and plants that you simply cannot escape, and the occasional green plate. All in all, it works. The aesthetic is giving garden vibes. It is cozy and nice. There are a lot of great areas to take fantastic pictures if you are into that kind of thing.
The Snail Menu
No, Ruch Snails does not only serve snail dishes. You can get regular Jollof, fried rice, and fried yam there. But they also have the Snails and Special menus, ranging from NGN2000 to NGN20,000. Overall, the food was on the cheap side.
I don’t know if they were trying to be on-brand, but the food we ordered took quite a long time to arrive. We waited for about 45 minutes, or the full first half of a football match for the food; very snaily. When it eventually came, we found it to be good but not fantastic.

The Snail Staff
The staff at Ruch Snails is nice and friendly. They were very helpful and aside from the note on how long it took to get the food to us, we have only great things to say.
Final Thoughts
I absolutely love the identity that Ruch Snails have carved out from themselves. They offer a great experience, especially if you want to eat a good snail dish. It’s a great place for a nice and intimate date and you should definitely visit. Ruch Snails is situated at 9, Aideyan Crescent off Akhionbare, GRA
