10 Essential Items for Benin’s Rainy Season

Benin’s rainy season is bloody. I mean, we all complain about the heat and its ability to boil yam but the rainy season can be very wet and cold and pretty brutal. Many people fall sick and those who don’t, end up with a cracked lip or a bad cough.

We know how tough it can be so here are 10 essential items you need to survive Benin’s rainy season in no particular order. Take a look:

Essential Items for Benin’s Rainy Season

Umbrella

Don’t let anybody deceive you, umbrellas are not for old women alone. Throw that toxic masculinity yarndust into the same place you take a dump. Anyone can get absolutely beaten by the rain and catch a cold from such. I am not saying carry it in your pocket or use it as a walking stick. But if you get word that it could rain, it might be a good idea to have it handy.

Crocs

Hate it or love it, crocs can really protect you from the muddy yama-yama that Benin City can become during the rainy season. And it so convenient that after a day outside, all you need to do is wipe your pair clean and put it away.

Sweatshirt

I mean, how else are you going to stay warm in this rainy weather without a good sweatshirt? Just… Well, please don’t buy any Gucci or Balenciaga sweatshirts. In fact, just thrift it. You are more likely to get a more stylish and long-lasting sweatshirt that way.

Mint

The rainy season can be rather cold, as we have established. And what that means is that you can get nasal congestion that messes up your vocals. The best thing to do is to always have something minty in your pocket. It could be Baba Blue or Tom Tom or good old peppermint (do they still sell those?), whatever it is, just make sure you are protecting your voice.

Vaseline

Even in the rainy season, it is still a mortal sin to be ashy. So, ensure you have a big cup of Vaseline and another smaller cup you can carry around for unfortunate people you meet on your day.

Powerbank

You know how NEPA can get during rainy seasons. You may not see light until the wire dries, and if it rains every day, then you can say goodbye to power. Especially with the price of fuel these days. This is why it is absolutely in your best interests to have a good powerbank – maybe something from Oraimo – I don’t know, to see you through the long wet days.

Raincoat

Yeah, I know you are already saying you are not a five-year-old and you will never wear a raincoat in your life, but you cannot deny their utility. They have gone out of fashion right now, but it will only take a trailblazer to bring them back in. The question is: are you the one?

BT Speaker

Science says if you are cold, play loud banging music from a Bluetooth speaker to drive away the cold. Don’t fact-check me. Whether it is a JBL, Zealot, or a T & G speaker, it doesn’t matter, it is a cold-driving heat-bringer. Just make sure the banger is banging. I am talking Asake, Zinoleesky, Zlatan, and Odumodublvck.

Socks (For Bed)

It is nighttime, and you are about to slip into bed, but your feet are exceptionally cold and you don’t know what to do. A pair of warm socks will do the magic. Yes, there are some people who sleep with socks on year in year out but it is particularly useful and recommended for Benin’s rainy season

Lip Balm

Whether it is a lip balm, lipstick, or lipgloss, as long as it is safe to apply to your life for protection, keep it close to you. Nothing like having sparkling lips in the cold. Trust me, you don’t want to be one of those unfortunate people walking about with split lips in the cold.
