If you lived in Benin City around the late 90s and early 2000s, then you should be familiar with the name ‘Sydney Shocker’. This great son of the soil is pretty much an ‘OG’ in both the journalism and entertainment industry in Edo State. He has successfully maintained his relevance in the entertainment world to date. Consequently, he would remain a great source of inspiration to upcoming creatives in Edo State. Here are 5 facts about Sydney Shocker:
‘Jack of Many Trades’
Iyore Sydney may be to some just another anchor/host of a TV show but there’s more to the man than that. He is a TV/Radio Host, Producer, Actor, Event Manager, Music Eclectic, Content Creator, Life Coach and a Compere. Being a ‘jack of many trades’ did not deter Sydney from his path, rather it has brought him more benefits. The true saying is after all, ‘ jack of all trades, master of none but often times better than a master of one’.
A Media Juggernaut
Need I explain this? I mean, having put over two decades of his years into the media profession, Sydney Shocker qualifies to be regarded as a media juggernaut. He is the host of the Breaktime Show and Saturday Show on Independent Television. Remarkably too, he has kept entertainment listeners in Edo State locked on his show for many years.
An Award Winner
As you might expect, ‘Sydney Shocker’ has won several awards for his consistency, doggedness and excellence in the media space. Some of which include the prestigious Village Meeting Award organised by Maazi Entertainment in 2019, and more recently, the Nigerian Electronic Media Creative Exhibition Award for ‘Best Outstanding OAP’ in Nigeria 2022.
An Actor
Recently, ‘Sydney Shocker’ made his acting debut in the Africa Magic TV series ‘ Enakhe’. He played his role beautifully well and I bet a lot of viewers cannot wait to see more of him in movies.
Chronicles of Shocker
In a bid to express his views on social issues, ‘Sydney Shocker’ has started a social media series titled ‘Chronicles of Shocker’. The series has received a lot of positive reactions from Edo people, especially the youth.
Remember that I called ‘Sydney Shocker’ an ‘OG’ earlier? I’d like to add that he has truly earned that title. Apart from having an excellent knowledge of rap music, the man has been into music too. He played the bass drum and was in a music band during his university days.
He is a true definition of “seen it all, done it all”.
